goldMINER

goldMINER runs on Windows 98/NT/2000/XP or Macintosh running the Virtual-PC software.

It automates local and remote searches against pFAM and CDD (Conserved-Domain Database, which integrates pFAM, SMART and COG, etc.) databases searches to annotate sequences such as expressed sequence tags (ESTs). It is the first software package to use the power of CDD at NCBI to automate sequence annotation.

The installation involves just a few mouse clicks. The installation package includes a sample file in FASTA format (CaNCBI.FAS, which contains sequence fragments of goldfish mRNAs from NCBI) and a BLAST database containing zebrafish CDSs to faciliate your practice through the goldMINER tutorial which is also available online (press F1 or click the Help menu after starting goldMINER).

goldMINER, with its detailed instructions in the tutorial, can also be used in one or two laboratories in a bioinformatics course.
